"Perhaps no place in any community is so totally democratic as the town library. The only entrance requirement is interest."
- Lady Bird Johnson

Libraries bring us together.

Our Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is committed to inclusion. From its inception, our public Library has existed to provide free access to resources for all. Ours was one of the first libraries in the nation to allocate space and resources for children, in 1904. Bookmobiles, outreach services and branch locations have expanded our services geographically since the 1920’s, our system was fully desegregated in 1956, and today’s digital services keep our Library available around the world and around the clock. At a time when so much seems to divide us, it is heartening to know that our Library steadfastly brings together people, ideas, and one another, and even more heartening to live in a community where that is so highly valued.

This week, we finalized the New York Times best-selling authors who will appear at Verse & Vino. This year’s lineup features food, poetry, mystery, the South, and everything in between. We look forward to seeing you at the Charlotte Convention Center on November 2 for this annual celebration of libraries, books, and a community of readers. Individual tickets and book club tables are now on sale, as are new individual sponsorship options - and don’t forget to pre-order a bundle of new releases from each author!

Verse & Vino is only the beginning. On November 4, EpicFest will connect young people with authors and illustrators, and a special musical guest at ImaginOn. And Saturday evening, our young adult authors will be the special guests at an EpicFest event for teens at UNC Charlotte.

Our Library’s mission is to improve lives and build a stronger community, and these events bring people of all backgrounds together around the shared joy of libraries. We couldn’t do it without your support, and we look forward to celebrating together. Thank you for building a much stronger community.

Warmly,

Jenni Gaisbauer, CFRE
Executive Director
