"The best libraries are a commons, a meeting place of equals that we own and share together.”
-Charles Thomas, Knight Foundation Program Director, Charlotte
I’ll never forget this month. At Verse & Vino, before 1,350 Library supporters and community members, your Library and Library Foundation revealed plans for a new Main Library and launched The CommonSpark, a public-private partnership to ignite change throughout the Library system.
It was a moment years in the making, and a passion project for so many throughout this community. And it was met with overwhelming enthusiasm.
The CommonSpark will infuse $135 million into improving lives and building a stronger community through the new Main Library; technology, innovation and programming throughout the system; and much more to serve our community for generations to come. Mecklenburg County and Knight Foundation have announced lead investments, and combined with generous commitments from individuals, corporations and foundations, we have achieved 67% of the project's goal.
And this is only the beginning, an incredible start to an inclusive, comprehensive campaign with a common goal for the common good: your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.
As you weigh opportunities for end-of-year giving, please consider helping ignite The CommonSpark.
Warmly,
Jenni Gaisbauer, CFRE Executive Director, Library Foundation
