Hello ,
It’s been said that libraries are the most democratic of institutions, and I deeply believe that. Embedded in neighborhoods throughout the County, your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is a trusted, integral part of this community – over the last century we’ve grown together, evolving programs and services to meet shifting needs and priorities. In times of crisis, people turn to the Library for information and support.
And your Library acts, in real time.
Since March, communities around the country and the world have faced simultaneous crises: the public health challenges of a pandemic; the economic, educational, and social fallout of quarantine; and the exposure of historic, lasting inequities in the systems designed to protect and assist our population. This is more than a shift in priorities – it’s a call to action.
Your Library is here, as a proactive place of dialogue, information and exchange of ideas. Programs, resource lists and events throughout the calendar reflect the world we’re living in today. One example is Engage 2020, which began as a program series in celebration of the Centennial of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, and in recognition of Charlotte's selection to host the Republican National Convention. It’s expanded to become so much more - a safe space for our community to learn from one another, to put current issues into historical context, and to learn from the past with the goal of a better future.
Engage with us. We're here for you, and so much better because of you.
Thank you,
Jenni Gaisbauer, CFRE Executive Director
